Summer Lake Retreat

This adjunct program provides a significant intervention for at-risk girls in need of a behavioral stabilization. Located in the breathtaking Summer Lake Basin 60 miles southeast of our Academy Lodge facility, our retreat program offers individually designed, contemplative and motivational experiences in a setting located within the Edmunds Wildlife Sanctuary. This short-term intervention is available to aide troubled girls having difficulty within either of our Academy programs.

In Oregon’s outback, the desolate wild beauty of the Winter Rim Mountains gives way to Summer Lake and the true Oregon High Desert with it’s 10,000 year old petroglyphs, and Crack In The Ground where 9,000 year old ancient bark sandals were found that rocked the archaeological world. This special area provides the back drop and naturally therapeutic environment for our Summer Lake Retreat Program. There are many metaphorical lessons to be learned here along with the opportunity for reflection and contemplation surrounded by pelicans, ibis, rails, avocets, swans, deer, antelope and simply, the silence. This place, shaped by volcanic eruption and upheaval now brings as Naturalist, John Muir said, “A peace that flows into you like sun into leaves.”
